Hi Folks, This is a shot taken in 1980 At an event in Eugene, OR A very hot and sunny day. A lot of energy around that day I drove 12 hrs to get there from Boise, ID. Well worth it
I remember joining John's school in 1981. He was a 5th degree black considered a master . Idaho Karate kung fu association was the name of the school. I miss those days, those tough fighting classes on a concrete floor. Many good fighters such as Rod Bozlow, Barry Benedict, and Steve Hurst started at this school. John ran a good school. Rod would eventually take over after John moved to Medford Oregon. I still reside in Caldwell Idaho and still involved in Kenpo Karate with Mike Winchester at his school called American Kenpo Karate. I understand that John has passed in 2023. I still remember him giving me my first lesson. The foundation I built there in Kenpo has carried me through many difficulties of life. I am grateful to have meant John in the early days. His fighting style set the pace for me which I discovered later on in other Kenpo schools was more advanced training. I understand he had a masters in Taekwondo to which he merged his emphasis on kicking with Kenpo.
